A Story of Faith, Growth, and Transformation

A journey of faith, perseverance and unexpected blessings unfolded in 2024. These testimonies took place in both Tilling, Uganda and right here at home in Grande Prairie. Leading Arise Mission Uganda, Lynn Vanderveen began the year facing deep challenges. Doubts about her leadership and the direction of the ministry weighed heavily on her heart. But God’s hand was at work! As the months passed, she could see Him reshaping not only the mission but also her faith.

One of the most profound moments of the year was the digging of a water well in an underserved part of the village. The people of Tilling united to prepare the site, taking ownership of a project that would change their daily lives. Meanwhile, halfway across the world, the CFA church family responded to the challenge of raising $12,000—an amount that initially seemed too big to ask for. Yet, through their generosity, the well became a reality.

But the true impact of Arise is often seen in the smallest moments. Years ago, a young boy helped out at the Arise Centre and was gifted a single goat. He cared for it diligently, and over time, that one goat became eight. His dream, however, was bigger—he wanted a cow. With the guidance of Stanley, Arise’s field assistant, the boy traded his herd for a young heifer. At just 14 years old, he became the first in his family to own a cow, a milestone that rippled through the village, inspiring others to believe that change was possible.

Then, in July, an unexpected door opened.

Arise had long partnered with St. Jude Agriculture Vocational Institute, but during a visit, its founder, Josephine, proposed something that left Lynn and Stanley stunned—an invitation to establish an agricultural training centre and demonstration farm in Tilling. This had been a dream for years, but they lacked the knowledge to pursue it. Now, with experienced mentorship from Josephine, the vision can take root. What a strong confirmation that God had been leading them all along.

As 2025 approaches, Arise prepares to launch a three-year Young Farmers’ project, equipping teenagers with agricultural skills and, more importantly, introducing them to Jesus. The road ahead is filled with opportunities and challenges, but one thing is certain—God is moving.

Pray for wisdom in building a strong home team, and for people with passionate and caring  hearts for the people of Tilling.

Through trials and triumphs, this year has proven one truth: when God is at work, even the smallest seeds—whether a single goat, a simple well, or a hesitant step of faith—can grow into something far greater than imagined.
